Scott Redding secures top ten finish at Misano

In hot weather conditions, the competition in FIM Superbike World Championship was just as heated this weekend in Misano, Italy. MGM Bonovo Racing entered round six with positive news and appears to have secured its financial position for the remaining 2025 season. Team rider Scott Redding delivered a strong performance in both races at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, although he was denied the rewards in the second race for the long distance.

After steady improvements in free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning, Redding could only manage 18th place in Superpole on Saturday morning, which meant he had to start the first race from the back of row six on the starting grid. However, over the course of the heated 21-lap battle, the British rider was able to work his way further and further forward. By lap two, he had already gained two positions and repeated the process again the following lap. By lap six, he was already in P12 and marched up into the top 10 in the second half of the race.

With six World Championship points under its belt, the MGM Bonovo Racing Team started Sunday’s race with corresponding optimism. After a good start into Superpole Race from P17th on the grid, Redding immediately moved up to 13th place, then repeatedly battled for 12th, but had to settle for 13th position after 10 intense laps. The 32-year-old racer also started the second main race from 17th place. After, not only making it into the top 10 in the first half of the race, but even climbing up to ninth on lap nine, he started an unfair battle with his bike in the second half, unable to properly stop it into corners. As a result, Redding ran wide numerous times and lost positions, even crashing out on the penultimate lap. But he bravely jumped back onto his Panigale V4 R and finished the race in 16th place.

The MGM Bonovo Racing Team hopes to carry this positive trend into the seventh round, which will take place in less than four weeks at Donington Park, the British rider’s home circuit.

«The weekend was better than expected. Obviously not testing here I expected to be on the backfoot, but already in FP1 I felt quite good with the bike from Most race 2, where we made some changes with and felt good, so we decided to just stick with that. I just felt more competitive again though, lap times were super close here. Qualifying was a shame because I should have been 12th on the grid, but I just touched the green, so my lap was cancelled, but this is the rule, so it is what it is. Race 1 was a hard, a though race. We collected some more data, and I felt I could improve the bike just a little bit and also my riding style which I’m improving every weekend, which is pretty good. Then we tried some stuff in Warm Up this morning, but I didn’t like it so much, so we tried something different for Superpole Race.»

«I was going well until two, three laps to go and I was getting really bad chatter with the bike because there was a small issue with the clutch, so it was a bit of a shame, I lost some positions, but the feeling was there. In Race 2 this afternoon, I was there, I got a good start and was in the battle for eighth position for quite a long time and then I started to struggle stopping the bike and I couldn’t understand what was going on. Unfortunately, I crashed finally because the bike kept pushing me into the corners and I was just trying to survive. No injuries, which is good, I got back on and finished the race. It was a pity because to be in the battle for eighth position was quite an improvement for us. We just checked the data now and there was another small issue with the clutch. We have to understand why this is happening and move on for Donington.»
